One was an outright offer and included a contract.
Now stay with me here, I know I may be rambling, and if you stick this out you may just win a free ebook...
Both companies contacted me regarding my supernatural suspense, Children of the Fog. But at least one is interested in ALL my titles.
My books include:
- Whale Song
- Children of the Fog
- Divine Intervention
- Divine Justice,
- The River
- Lancelot's Lady
- Skeletons in the Closet & Other Creepy Stories
- Whale Song: School Edition, which comes with a teacher's discussion guide on bullying, racism and more.
So here's my question for you...
If these companies decided to take only 3 of my titles, which 3 should they choose--and WHY?
Five people who leave their answers to my question will receive one of my ebooks--their choice. I'll do this draw on September 7th, 2011. I'd truly appreciate your input, and I'll direct both companies to this post and your comments. Thank you!

I'd pitch Divine Intervention, Whale Song and Lancelot's Lady. Each are quite different and all will make them want more.
Thank you so much, Alison. :-)
Hi Cheryl,
First, I am very happy for you, congratulations! China is HUGE!!!! And Turkey is not small market either.
I would pick Whale Song (not the school edition), Children of the Fog and Lancelot's Lady. I think these books should be stand alone books, because if you can only choose 3, then you should show them different types of books. Different genres what you are capable of writing.
Whale Song because it has a very important message, Children of the Fog is one of your newest books and Lancelt's Lady, because there is always very big market for romance books!
I am proud that I know someone who will be published in Chine, that's awesome!
You should think of Russian market too :))) When you come to present your books in Russia, then I can come and meet with you :)
Hi Cheryl,
First of all Congrats on your wonderful news dear!!!!!!!!! I think I agree with Alison and Inga if you could pick only 3 I think I would choose Whale Song, Lancelot's Lady, and Children of the Fog too they show your diversity as an author and are all different genres. But I hope they decide to publish all of them! Good luck!!! :)
Big Hugs,
JennJ
Cheryl, I haven't known you long enough to have read all your books, but I would offer them three in the same genre, so your readers know what to expect from you.
Interesting and exciting news, Cheryl. I think you should pitch your best three novels, regardless of genre. The three I like best (in order) are Whale Song, Skeletons in the Closet, and Children of the Fog.
Then pitch them MY two novels!
Wow! SO exciting, my friend!!
Children of the Fog is a must-I think it's your best. Definitely one of the Divine books-maybe you can get them to pick up the series (!!!) and then either Whale Song or Lancelot's Lady because they're both so different from the others.
Crossing my fingers for you, though I'm not surprised that they recognize your talent<3.
Thank you all for your comments. Every one of you has valid points, and I can definitely see Whale Song and Children of the Fog as the top 2.
Inga, do you know a Russian translator??? Because I would LOVE to have my books in Russia. :-)
Many thanks all!
Cheryl
Hi Cheryl, I'd choose Whale Song and the River, because I've read both and know they're really good. For the third, maybe choose one that represents a different aspect of your work.
Hello Cheryl,
What exciting news, but then you are the best, so I'm not surprised!
I would pitch the original Whale Song, Lancelot's Lady and the River.
Good luck with this venture and may many more follow!
Janice
I haven't read your books yet, so I can't really say, but I did want to say congratulations on such a step in your career! That's exciting!
Congrats That comes first and foremost. Ok First Whale song then,Chilren of the fog and last Lancelot's Lady. Each one is quite different and will give a good taste of your great writing skills. Make them wanting more. Enjoy your sucess you deserve and your family to. Thanks Joannie jscddmj at aol dot com
Cheryl, I know more than one Russian translator! I know few! Send me an email if you are interested!
inga
Congratulations! I'm sooooo excited for you! And for all those people that will soon be able to get their hands on your books! As you know I absolutely love Children of the Fog!! I've yet to read The River & Whale Song but I'm looking forward to it! Of course picking 3 won't be a problem because they will pick up all of them! No worries! Can't wait!! You'll be snuggling up to Stephen King on bookshelves all over the world very soon! hehs<3
Congratulations, Cheryl! I honestly don't know about the Turkish market, but the Chinese market is indeed huge. In fact, I have a lot of friends/acquaintances who are international students studying Translation (and other similar degrees like TESOL - teaching english as a 2nd language) in the universities here. So there are tons of opportunities for your books to be translated into Chinese.
Please forgive me that I haven't read any of your books, but I would still suggest Whale Song probably because it seems to be your most well-known and it has a touching, universal appeal - at least from what I've been able to glean of it.
4 winners came from the names above and 1 from Goodreads, where this post also resides. Congratulations to:
John
Joannie
Anna
Debra
Alison
I'll email you all with details. :-)
Thanks for your comments and opinions. You'll be happy to know that Whale Song is already in a translation deal for China and is also being translated into German.
