A Killer of a Whale Launch - Assisted Suicide Novel Hits Shelves
EDMONTON , AB - It will be "a killer whale of a launch party" on Saturday, April 7, as author Cheryl Kaye Tardif's highly anticipated assisted suicide novel Whale Song hits the shelves.
Assisted suicide has long been a controversial issue, and with the expected release of the infamous ‘Dr. Death’, a.k.a. Jack Kevorkian, in June of this year, it is now making headlines once again.
In Whale Song, published by Kunati Books, a young woman searches for answers years after the mysterious and tragic assisted suicide of her mother who was suffering from Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. As a child, she is haunted by strange visions and lost memories and is faced with every emotion --- heartbreak, sorrow, fear, guilt, and finally forgiveness and hope. Whale Song is a novel for almost any age, and while it neither endorses nor condemns assisted suicide or the right to die, it does leave the reader thinking about their own mortality.
"Assisted suicide is one of the most horrifying scenarios a person could imagine --- it is an issue that has fascinated and saddened me as I believe it does many people," says Tardif. "And it poses a terrifying question: Could you assist in the death of someone you love who was suffering and wanted to die...would you?"
Whale Song has captured the attention of numerous film companies --- including some from Hollywood --- and a screenplay, which Tardif wrote with co-writer Alison Neuman, was completed in 2006.
Tardif is the award-winning author of such books as The River and Divine Intervention. She is currently working on her upcoming novel Children of the Fog, a terrifying suspense that asks, "How far are you willing to go for your child?" She is also working on Divine Justice, the second in the Divine mystery series, and another suspense titled Submerged.
So be sure to catch this literary talent at The Whale Song Book Launch at Chapters -South Point (3227 Calgary Trail) on Saturday, April 7th, from 7:00-9:30 p.m. , as she launches the book that will change the way you look at life --- and death.
